After a long hard slog, all of the films are now up on The Space.

The reluctant anchor, Craig Morrison, one of the curators of the festival, gives a very concise overview of blinc and its dedication to Alan Turing. Lots of interesting facts about this incredibly gifted man, who was unfortunately persecuted by the very nation that he served. If you don’t know anything about Alan Turing, then this would be a good place to start. Helen Booth, Jessica Lloyd Jones, Ant Dickinson, Wendy Dawson, Steve Knight, Sean Vicary and Jobina Tinnemans all feature in interviews along side the other artists featured in the works, including, Elizabeth Ashworth, Menna Elfyn, Steffan Rhodri & Joel Cockrill.

The Space is a wonderful platform for Art and Artists and if you haven’t yet visited The Space.. then get on over there and join in..

All Over http://blincdigital.com/?p=2335 http://blincdigital.com/?p=2335#comments Tue, 30 Oct 2012 15:00:34 +0000 http://blincdigital.com/?p=2335 Well it came and went, with some spectacular work from over 50 Artists. We had Live performance from Bedwyr Williams, Rhys Trimble and Alys Hughes. All braving the freezing conditions in Conwy. The whole town being used as a gallery space worked very well, attracting over 20,000 visitors over the weekend. The BBC broadcast on national television which was a real boost for Alan Turing’s Centenary. Over all considering the scale and the sheer volume of people and content, we all think it went pretty well..

If you have any images or films please feel free to share..

Craig Morrison and Joel Cockrill http://blincdigital.com/?p=2263 http://blincdigital.com/?p=2263#comments Fri, 19 Oct 2012 07:56:30 +0000 http://blincdigital.com/?p=2263 The Artist/ Curators of the Day today are Craig Morrison and Joel Cockrill.

blinc was started by Craig and Joel. as curators in 2011, this year, its twice the size, with more venues and over 30 artists.  They have curated a variety of art forms including projections, performance, dance, poetry  and installation as well as exhibiting their own work at the festival.

Craig Morrison’s initial work with Meat Beat Manifesto and his Cyber Punk designs led to his work being on permanent display at both the Science Museum in London and the V&A. He has always been passionate about Art and Film. The Alan Turing Centenary has inspired him to collaborate on two large works this year: Intense Colour Movement , a large projection piece on Plas Mawr and Thank You,  an emotional response to Alan Turing’s Epitaph re-created in neon. Both  are being streamed on The BBC Space.

A sense of place, and the interplay of sound and light within a space have been a repeated reference in Joel Cockrill’s work across a wide variety of media and creative explorations. These core interests have been the elemental influences for film, performance, audio work and collaboration for the last 25 years.

The BBC arts site The Space will feature several of Joel’s short documentary films based on the work of other blinc artists, exploring their motivation, inspiration and relevance to the centenary of the 2012 centenary of Alan Turing’s birth.

Chris Squire’s roots lie in the performing arts, but works at the interface between participatory events, new technologies and installation.
Based in Yorkshire he is director of Impossible Arts, collaborating with artists from many disciplines to combine participatory, digital, live and visual arts in a wide range of innovative projects.
His work mixes the technological with the lyrical and aims to involve and intrigue people from many different backgrounds.
‘Lightweight’ is an elegant 4m diameter inflatable sphere that looks simple. It is also the hiding place for complex electronic, sonic and optical equipment developed to create seemingly mysterious and effortless effects.

Desmond Paul Henry. 1921-2004 http://blincdigital.com/?p=2220 http://blincdigital.com/?p=2220#comments Mon, 15 Oct 2012 09:19:45 +0000 http://blincdigital.com/?p=2220 Our blinc Artist of the Day today is Desmond Paul Henry. 1921-2004

Desmond was a British pioneer of Computer Art/Graphics who during the 1960′s constructed a series of three mechanical drawing machines from analogue bombsight computers.

Henry’s works are highly stylised and are born out of the convergence of modern technology and more traditional tools.
We have been fortunate to secure original works of art that will be exhibited during the festival.

Henry’s life-long passion for all things mechanical inspired him to purchase an army surplus analogue bombsight computer in the early 1950s. For years he would gaze transfixed at the ‘peerless parabolas’ (Henry) of its inner working parts when in motion. Then in the early sixties he decided to try and capture these mechanical motions on paper and so was born the first of a series of three drawing machines based around the components of the bombsight computer itself.
