Some of the infrastructure has arrived in Conwy. The laser test shows one laser at 50% Power. blinc has 4 at 100%..This was taken from the other side of the Estuary in Degannwy.

The Bridge of Light is one of the blinc festival highlights this year and features work from 3 of Wales most celebrated Artists. Bedwyr Williams, the Artist who represented Wales at the Venice Biennalle, is returning to blinc for the 3rd time. Marc Rees, Llawn01 and Adain Avion and Alfredo Cramerotti also feature in Joel Cockrill’s Bridge of Light, alongside +ffloc and other artists.

The Laser work is starting at 7.00pm on both Friday and Saturday night and can be seen from both sides of the estuary.

A collaborative work from Craig Morrison, Jobina Tinnemans, Joel Cockrill, Elizabeth Ashworth, Menna Elfyn and narrated by Steffan Rhodri..

Well it came and went, with some spectacular work from over 50 Artists. We had Live performance from Bedwyr Williams, Rhys Trimble and Alys Hughes. All braving the freezing conditions in Conwy. The whole town being used as a gallery space worked very well, attracting over 20,000 visitors over the weekend. The BBC broadcast on national television which was a real boost for Alan Turing’s Centenary. Over all considering the scale and the sheer volume of people and content, we all think it went pretty well..

Craig Morrison and Joel Cockrill

The Artist/ Curators of the Day today are Craig Morrison and Joel Cockrill.

blinc was started by Craig and Joel. as curators in 2011, this year, its twice the size, with more venues and over 30 artists. They have curated a variety of art forms including projections, performance, dance, poetry and installation as well as exhibiting their own work at the festival.

Craig Morrison’s initial work with Meat Beat Manifesto and his Cyber Punk designs led to his work being on permanent display at both the Science Museum in London and the V&A. He has always been passionate about Art and Film. The Alan Turing Centenary has inspired him to collaborate on two large works this year: Intense Colour Movement , a large projection piece on Plas Mawr and Thank You, an emotional response to Alan Turing’s Epitaph re-created in neon. Both are being streamed on The BBC Space.

A sense of place, and the interplay of sound and light within a space have been a repeated reference in Joel Cockrill’s work across a wide variety of media and creative explorations. These core interests have been the elemental influences for film, performance, audio work and collaboration for the last 25 years.

The BBC arts site The Space will feature several of Joel’s short documentary films based on the work of other blinc artists, exploring their motivation, inspiration and relevance to the centenary of the 2012 centenary of Alan Turing’s birth.

History Meets Technology at Blinc Digital Arts Festival

Conwy Council, Cadw and The Arts Council for Wales recently funded the Blinc Digital Arts Festival, a two-day, site-specific festival of light and sound based artworks, exploring the role that history plays in today’s modern environment. Performance Artists, Film Makers, Photographers, Digital Artists and Animators exhibited, projecting imagery and illustrations onto Conwy’s 13th century Castle. Huge crowds watched as images addressing myth, personal and chronological history, and humour engulfed the castle walls.Blink Digital: http://blincdigital.com/

Festival of Light and Sound

October 22nd and 23rd 2011

blinc is a celebration of visual and sound technologies based around Conwy Town. Using the castle as a backdrop and other sites within the town as gallery spaces or site specific locations, blinc will develop projects and specially commission high-quality digital artworks and sound pieces.

The main focus of the festival will be on the Saturday evening, when the walls of the castle will be transformed using a sophisticated projection mapping system.
